The Latest Updates Break the Xserver
Like many many users, I had a bad feeling that the upgrade to xserver-xorg would not go normal. Thankfully for me, although I did the upgrade, I did not reboot and was able to finish several pages of work. However, this morning I saw the light, or I should say I saw the text-mode.
What I did was to apt-get again, just in case. In which case, everything worked fine. The update/upgrade installed a new xserver-xorg-core and I was on x again. The following thread details the pains. Sorry folks! PLEASE READ: The Latest Updates Break the Xserver.
